XLPE power cable 0.6/1 kV with copper conductor and PVC sheath for underground use
Product description
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cables are suitable for applications such as distribution networks and offer advantages that PVC-insulated cables cannot match. They feature a simple construction, are lightweight, offer excellent heat resistance, have a high load-carrying capacity, do not melt, are resistant to chemical corrosion, and possess high mechanical strength.
Product Features
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cables are produced using a peroxide cross-linking process, which transforms the linear molecular structure of polyethylene into a three-dimensional network structure, converting it from a thermoplastic to a thermosetting material. This raises the operating temperature from 70°C to 90°C, significantly enhancing the cable’s current-carrying capacity. XLPE insulated cables offer the following advantages:
- Heat resistance: The three-dimensional network structure of XLPE provides excellent heat resistance. It does not decompose or carbonise at temperatures below 300°C, with a long-term operating temperature of up to 90°C and a thermal life of up to 40 years.
- Insulation properties: XLPE retains the inherent good insulation characteristics of PE, whilst further increasing the insulation resistance. Its dielectric loss tangent is very low and is largely unaffected by temperature.
- Mechanical Properties: Due to the formation of new chemical bonds between macromolecules, XLPE exhibits improved hardness, rigidity, abrasion resistance and impact resistance, thereby overcoming the drawback of PE being prone to environmental stress cracking.
- Chemical Resistance: XLPE possesses strong resistance to acids, alkalis and oils. Its combustion products consist primarily of water and carbon dioxide, posing minimal environmental harm and meeting modern fire safety requirements.
