XLPE Insulated Power Cable 8.7/15kV & 26/35kV 3-Core Copper PVC Sheath Steel-Armored Power Cable
Product Description
This medium voltage XLPE insulated power cable is designed for 3‑core copper conductor construction, rated 8.7/15kV and 26/35kV, with copper tape screen, PVC inner sheath, steel wire armour (SWA) and PVC outer sheath. The cable conforms to IEC 60502‑2 and is suitable for fixed installation in power transmission and distribution systems, including power supply stations, indoor/outdoor installations, cable ducts, direct burial and cable trays for industrial plants, switchboards and power stations.
XLPE insulation provides significantly higher current ratings, better thermal stability and lower dielectric losses compared to conventional PVC or paper insulated cables. The steel wire armour delivers robust mechanical protection against tension, compression, impact, rodent damage and external mechanical forces, making the cable ideal for heavy industrial installations, direct burial in aggressive environments, and underground power networks where high short‑circuit levels are anticipated.
Voltage ratings cover 3‑core configurations for both 8.7/15kV (U₀/U) and 26/35kV (U₀/U), each designed for 50Hz power frequency transmission. The cable is available with either copper or aluminium conductor (Class 2 stranded) to meet varying project budget and performance requirements
Construction
The cable is manufactured through a triple extrusion process where the conductor screen, XLPE insulation and insulation screen are extruded simultaneously to ensure perfect bonding and eliminate all air voids.
| Layer | Material | Specification |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | Plain annealed copper (or aluminium on request) | Stranded Class 2, circular compacted or shaped, IEC 60228 |
| Conductor Screen | Extruded semi‑conducting XLPE compound | Bonded to insulation, hand‑strippable on site for termination |
| Insulation | Cross‑linked polyethylene (XLPE) | Continuous conductor temperature 90°C; short‑circuit 250°C max. 5s |
| Insulation Screen | Extruded semi‑conducting XLPE compound | Bonded or cold‑strippable |
| Metallic Screen | Copper tape (CTS) – plain annealed copper tape applied helically over insulation screen | For 8.7/15kV and 26/35kV, metallic screen is mandatory |
| Filler | Non‑hygroscopic polypropylene (PP) yarn + binder tape | Fills interstices between cores, maintains circular profile |
| Inner Sheath (Bedding) | Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – Type ST2 | Extruded over laid‑up cores; provides bedding for armour |
| Armour | Galvanized steel wires (SWA) – single layer applied helically over bedding | For 3‑core cables; magnetic steel wires permitted |
| Outer Sheath | Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) – Type ST2, black (other colours on request) | Provides final mechanical and environmental protection; flame retardant |
