H1Z2Z2-K Solar Cable – 6mm²
One reel. 70 amps. 25 years on the roof.
This is the 6mm² H1Z2Z2-K. It carries 70A in free air at 60°C ambient, which covers most residential string configurations without upsizing to 10mm². The conductor is Class 5 tinned copper. Insulation and sheath are both cross-linked halogen-free polyolefin, not PVC. That combination is what lets it sit on a mounting rail in direct sun for two decades without the sheath going chalky or the conductor corroding under the tin layer.
Why the 6mm² is the one most installers actually order
4mm² works for short module jumpers. 10mm² is for long home runs or commercial arrays pushing higher current. The 6mm² sits in the middle and handles the majority of residential and small commercial string designs. It is also the size where voltage drop stops being a problem on typical 15–30 meter runs. If you are stocking one size to cover most jobs, this is the one.

| Standard | EN 50618 / IEC 62930 |

What the double Z2 means in practice
The model code H1Z2Z2-K is not random. The two Z2 entries mean both the insulation and the outer sheath are halogen-free cross-linked compound. Single-layer or thermoplastic constructions exist at lower price points. They also fail the EN 50618 damp-heat and UV sequence more often than not when tested on finished reels rather than lab samples. This one has the second Z2 for a reason.

We make one thing well: DC cable for solar.
F.T Cable has been manufacturing H1Z2Z2-K solar cable since 2017. Solar DC cable is the core of what we ship, and it is what we have built our process around.
What we actually control
Tinned copper stranding, XLPO insulation extrusion, sheath application, and in-line meter marking all happen under one roof. We draw and tin our own conductors rather than buying finished wire from traders. That matters because conductor stranding quality is where most cable failures start—loose strands, inconsistent tin thickness, or copper that has sat in storage long enough to oxidize before extrusion. By controlling the upstream step, we catch those problems before they become a reel of cable that fails a bend test six months later.
Who we ship to
70% of our output goes to overseas markets. Our regular customers are PV distributors, EPC contractors, and panel manufacturers who need consistent reels month after month, not one-off container loads. If you are sourcing for a project that spans multiple shipments, we keep your extrusion parameters and conductor spec on file so reel 50 matches reel 1.
Factory visit
If you are in China. We can arrange a line walk-through and pull test on a production reel during your visit. Bring your own micrometer if you want.
